Under the Kamani Tree #986

Under the Kamani Tree, Noho 'ana — Kauai life - anini beach, kilauea lighthouse, commission artwork by Emily Miller
A family plays in the shallow lagoon at Anini Beach on Kauai's north shore, sheltered under the spreading branches of a false kamani tree growing at the water's edge. Kilauea Lighthouse and Moku'ae'ae Island are visible on the horizon. This kamani tree's leaves are just starting to turn from green to red in their seasonal cycle. False kamani was introduced to Hawaii in the 1800s, but has long been used to make canoes across Polynesia.
